SK Telecom, South Korean wireless telecommunications operator launches IoT-enabled blood sugar meter

SK Telecom launches IoT-enabled blood sugar meter in North Korea, which uses its LTE Cat M1 network to send blood sugar data to hospitals and relatives of patient. This device is aimed at diabetic patients; allowing hospitals and relatives to keep track of sugar level of patient.

SK Telecom Co., Ltd. SK is a South Korean wireless telecommunications operator which is developing IoT solutions to meet today’s demand. Recently launched blood glucose meter is connected to its LTE Cat M1 Network for sending blood sugar data to the servers. Then this information will be recorded and provided to the hospitals. This is another development toward better diabetic patient care.

These days Internet of Things (IoT) is used by various industries to create innovative solutions in their area of interest. Medical science is also using IoT technologies for better patient care.

Diabetic patients will be much benefited with this solution. As system will automatically collect blood sugar level data of patients and can send to hospitals/families.

As per the estimates South Korea has 5 million diabetes patients and it will affect 6.0 million people by 2050. According to SK Telecom, this solution is vital for patients for this incurable condition. Currently there is no cure of Diabetes in Allopathic System of Medicine.

As per SK Telecom the cost of this device is 99,000 won, plus a monthly fee of 1,100 won.

SK Telecom has launched a large number of IoT based solutions over its IoT networks. Last month company launched car rental management services which use its LTE Cat M1 network.

Earlier in the month of July Company launched lipstick-shaped IoT device; which essentially a IoT based alerting device which can be used to send alerts the police, families, and friends in case of any emergencies. This is also a good solution to keep hold on the crime and increase confidence among society.

Company is also diversifying its area of work on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. Company is developing AI technology for genome data analysis.
