AMD is ready with the sampling of 7nm process based Navi GPU and Rome CPU which will be launched in 3rd quarter of this year. These computing units are very powerful with about 70% improvement in performance. According to the unofficial benchmark the performance of these compute device is about 70% more than current CPU/GPU.
According to the company, the Navi GPU and Rome CPU will be manufactured using the TSMC’s 7nm manufacturing process. This manufacturing process is cheap compared to the current 14nm process.
Also the processing power is more and company is expected to get good order after release in market. Company will start shipping this in third quarter of this year once the units are in mass production.
AMD released a little information about its new Navi GPU and Rome CPU. According to the company these CPU/GPU will be manufactured using the TSMC’s 7nm manufacturing process.
The Server-oriented EPYC-branded chips (codenamed Rome) is expected to be shipped be company in the third quarter of this year. Company will also start selling Navi-based video cards in the market same time.
AMD provided some outline information about its future 7nm process based GPUs with PCIe 4, Zen 2, Zen 3 and Zen 4.
Last year in November Company outlined the details of upcoming Zen 2 based GPU designed. This advanced design which comes with new improvements to make processing faster. For example it comes with the native support for 256-bit floating points units to handle AVX 2 instructions.
The design of these new computing unit gives huge performance and power saving.
Company is also coming up with the 7nm process based Rome processor which will have maximum of 64 cores and 128 threads. That’s a huge processing power for an CPU. Such CPU can be used with the GPU for fast training of machine learning models.
During machine learning fast CPU is required to pre and post process the huge set of data. The actual computation is done with the help of GPU. The GPU is designed and developed to do parallel mathematical calculation and can be used for deep learning applications.
There is no official information about the mainstream 3000-series Ryzen chips.
AMD is the first company to develop GPU and CPU based on the 7nm processing model. The new CPU and GPU product will provide an edge over other companies. AMD is expecting large orders of these CPU/GPU once the product is released in the market.
