India’s CDAC and France’s Atos signed a contact on Saturday for the designing and building of supercomputers in the country. This contract is for three years and companies together build high performance BullSequana supercomputer.
During the signing ceremony French minister of Europe and Foreign Affair Jean Yves Le Drian and Indian Secretary – Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Ajay Prakash Sawhney were present.
This contract was signed between Hemant Darbari, Director General of C-DAC, and Pierre Barnabé, chief operating officer – Big Data & Security at Atos.
Speaking at the ceremony Jean Yves Le Drian said that the business tie will deepen bilateral relationship between two countries. He further added that both countries require using the technology for humanity.
This contact is awarded to Atos under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) scheme for the installation of 70 high-performance supercomputing facilities in the country. This supercomputing facility is for various academic and research institutions in the country. India is aimed to create network of high-performance super computer cluster in the country.
According to the French Embassy statement, this contact is very important for Atos as company becomes preferred industrial partner of India in the high strategic field.
According to the statement, the delivery of BullSequana supercomputer is expected to start next year.
Atos is learning in the designing, manufacturing and installation of supercomputers. The BullSequana supercomputer is designed to handle Artificial Intelligence an Deep Learning workloads to meet today’s high computing requirement. The BullSequana supercomputer uses latest GPU and CPUs to design their system. It provides tremendous performance on the heavy workloads.
This deal will bring BullSequana supercomputers at a cost of Rs. 4,500 crores in India to help research organizations and academic institutes in research.
